Artificial or duplicate Rudraksha are made using the wild berry seeds and some times using nuts. But exact copies cannot be made that can be compared to the real Rudraksha beeds. Only experienced person can detected them with naked eye. Rudraksha can be recognized looking at deep linings-facets. Also few simple tests can be performed to distinguish between real and fake one. A real Rudraksha does not float, it sinks, water or milk. The best quality Rudraksha is a little greasy, smoothed, hard, clear face. The hole in Rudraksha is natural.
It is noted that if the Rudraksha is not ripe, it will float on water, where as a Rudraksha made of wood with lead or ant metal pleased inside may sink. If such is the state of cheating, before buying a Rudrakasha we must consult a person who can be relied upon and has experience. The one-faced Rudrakasha is very rare and very expensive. Therefore cheating is done mostly in this variety. Where as the five-faced Rudrakasha is very common and are easily affordable aby anyone, therefore are real ones.
The con peoples draw artificial facets or the mukh on the surface of berries, betel nuts or Areca nuts and they try to give them a real appearance. FAKE RUDRAKSHA BEADS

The people creating or producing artificial Rudraksha are very skillful at creating the appearance of real Rudrakshas. There are no accurate tests to identify real beads except for examination by an experienced people.
HOW TO USE AND TAKE CARE OF THE RUDRAKSHA
If you are wearing a fresh Rudraksha mala, it is best to wear on a Monday.
While sleeping it is advised to remove the mala. While travelling one should sleep wearing it on. After bathing in the morning, hold the mala in the right hand and repeat the appropriate mantra aloud for 108 times.

While, for ladies a precaution, do not wear the Rudraksha mala during periods of menstrual bleeding. For men, do not wear while attending funerals.
The Rudraksha mala has a very long lifespan. A properly cared for mala can be passed along to eight generations.
The Rudraksha mala can be washed occasionally with warm water and should be dried naturally. It should not be soaked for extended periods of time. Rudraksha beads are available in size varying from 3mm to 40 mm. The size of the bead has no bearing on its effects. But, it is necessary that the mala should contain beads of same number of mukhis and same size.
